The cat breaks the plate which is zeena’s favorite.  Mattie feels really nervous she doesn’t know how to explain to Zeena. The cat just like Zeena  and the pickle dish just like the relationship between Zeena and  Ethan. The author use the figurative  subtlety shows the relationship of these three people.
